Located in Varzay, between Saintes and Royan, this former art deco style station from 1912 is classified as a historic monument. Built on two levels, it covers approximately 280 sqm of living space and 5000 sqm of land. A historic gem, it is one of the six twin stations of Toulouse architect Pierre-Joseph Esquié, including Rochefort and La Rochelle, built between 1909 and 1912, the date of the start of operation of the Saujon-Saint-Jean-d railway line. ‘Angely. The decoration of the facades is a combination of white, red and green glazed bricks. On the ground floor are the old station hall, the luggage room, the railway workers’ room, on the first floor, the station master’s apartment and on the second floor the attic which was used for drying tobacco leaves as well as ‘a magnificent vaulted cellar. Today this top floor has been transformed into an apartment with a kitchen-living room area, a bathroom and a large bedroom. The ground floor and first floor remain to be renovated.
