Investing in a house for renovation
Interested in buying a house to renovate by changing everything ? If you have no fear of building sites, then go for it !

Opting for a house to renovate clearly offers you the major benefit of personalising it to the maximum. Depending on your budget and how much time you have for the project, you’re free to choose the room layout, decide whether or not the kitchen should be open-plan, install an en-suite bathroom for the master bedroom, and specify more detailed but essential issues, such as the type of heating, floor finishes and wall coverings, for example.

But why choose to buy a house for renovation ?
The first obvious reason is financial, because properties for renovation are cheaper than a new property. But, of course, only if the total cost of purchase and renovation is lower than buying a house that you can move straight into. For peace of mind, you should definitely consider involving architects and skilled craftsmen, who will be able to cost the work involved and the length of time it will take. They can also tell you which walls can’t be demolished because they are load-bearing!

Another major benefit is the opportunity to combine period features with contemporary functionality. You’ll also be able to make your wildest dreams a reality by investing in a ruined longhouse and transforming it with extensive glazing, or falling in love with a former Charente wine storehouse and converting it in contemporary loft style, with a huge dressing room or open-plan living room and kitchen.
The possibility of obtaining a grant to renovate an old house
If the old house you invest in needs an insulation upgrade, you may qualify for a PTZ zero-interest eco-loan. Financial support for energy upgrades is also available from ANAH (the French National Housing Agency) and the energy transition tax credit (CITE).
