A house in the country
A stone-built house with ivy covering its frontage, and a garden for summer barbecues… A country house combines the rural idyll with sound property investment.

For town mice, a second home in the country can be a lifesaver. A getaway in which to break free from urban life and ever-present neighbours, or simply to reconnect with nature. An invaluable escape route for those who suffer from cabin fever in their apartments, a house in the country offers so many opportunities, from vegetable growing to DIY and garden picnics.

Far from urban pollution, close to a river, lake or forest, the majority of country houses have their own private garden and are located in peaceful surroundings. And because travel options are sometimes restricted and travel times are longer, life in the country also gives us time to rethink how we travel and our perception of time.
So why buy a house in the country ?
In the age of digital detox, what might once have seemed a luxury is now becoming a godsend. Governed only by budget and preferences, the options are endless: a country house to renovate at weekends, a second home for time with friends or family, or a luxury home in the country to be enjoyed as a year-round holiday retreat.

Whether it’s ten kilometres or hundreds from your main residence, it’s an ideal investment for your later life. If you plan to go green every weekend, we’d advise staying within a 150-kilometre radius to keep travel time within around two hours. This way, you’ll avoid having your motivation eroded by the length of the journey! Another option is to rent it out so that your investment earns money when you’re not using it.
